G10 Baracuta Harrington Jacket

Being sported from legends like Steve McQueen to Frank Sinatra, there’s a reason why the ‘Barracuda’ Harrington jacket is considered a timeless men’s piece. Perfect when paired with some clean khakis the Harrington is still a great option for bracing those spring and summer breezes. Although many designers have taken cue to produce their own version, [...]

Planes, Bullet Trains & Automobiles

High-speed railways are coming, thanks to a decade of negotiations and strong support from the Obama administration. So far, proposed lines would cover California, Texas, the Midwest, the Northeast and Florida. Wired has an excellent breakdown on this endeavor, highlighting both an interesting historical timeline with challenges in constructing this revolutionary transportation system. Being in Texas, I remember the failed ‘Texas TGV/Triangle’ plan during the 90s that would have easily connected Dallas, Houston, Austin, and San Antonio via bullet trains. Hopefully this time, the project can get off the ground and be running by the 2020 deadline. By the way the picture above is the state-of-the-art AGV (Automotrice Grande Vitesse), built by Alstom and successor of the current TGV fleet currently used by the French. Now why don’t we spread some of that sexy machinery stateside?

G10 Baracuta Harrington Jacket

Being sported from legends like Steve McQueen to Frank Sinatra, there’s a reason why the ‘Barracuda’ Harrington jacket is considered a timeless men’s piece. Perfect when paired with some clean khakis the Harrington is still a great option for bracing those spring and summer breezes. Although many designers have taken cue to produce their own version, Baracuta was the original company that brought about the Harrington’s popularity and continues production on these jackets today. Still offering the traditional fit that Steve famously sported, Baracuta has also expanded their collection to incorporate more modern cuts such as their G10 collection. I’m quite partial to the G10 Vintage fit, providing the same quality jacket but in a slimmed down cut. £99.00 ($160) at Baracuta.

I’m With Coco

It looks like it’s final: Conan O’Brien has finally sealed the deal to exit ‘The Tonight Show’ by this weekend for a reported $45 million. The show has gotten extremely funny given the situation between O’Brien and NBC in the last few weeks. In fact, the jokes on NBC are finally taking a toll as they censored a portion of Wednesday’s program on Hulu that featured an awesome Conan prank. The final two shows of ‘The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien’ will air this Thursday and Friday at 10:35pm central on NBC.

The Desert Boot

It’s hard arguing against a fashion staple that has been around for nearly 60 years. Given its recent resurgence, Clark’s Desert Boot has survived decades of fashion onslaught due to its unparalleled simplicity and comfort. After owning a pair for over a year, my boots are just as comfortable as the day that I bought them (thanks to its superb crepe rubber sole). They come in a variety of colors, however I’m quite partial to the light sand tan. $95 at Clarks.

11 Minutes

Think you’re watching football? Think again. With the NFL Divisional Playoffs in full throttle this weekend, you’d be surprised that teams are only on the field to play for approximately 11 minutes per game. The Wall Street Journal has a very interesting article that breaks down broadcasted games from all of the top networks, including replay time comparisons and even cheerleader coverage. Now there’s a clear explanation as to why a 60 minute game can be extrapolated into a 3 hour gridiron session. By the way, make sure to catch the exciting Dallas and Vikings match up tomorrow at 12pm on FOX.

IMAX Hubble 3D

nasaatlantishubble

Last May, NASA sent several astronauts up to deliver the final repairs and upgrades to the aging Hubble telescope. However some clever fellow decided that an IMAX camera should follow the entire procedure, including the usage of 3D. Loving all things space, this should be pretty interesting to follow. The film will be released on March 19th exclusively to IMAX theaters and will be narrated by Leonardo DiCaprio. Catch the HD trailer after the jump.

Nespresso Citiz

There are few small splendors in life that can equate to a rich cup of espresso. However, besides enjoying it at the local coffee shop, the task of making the beverage at home is daunting given the expertise needed by a trained barista. Enter the Nespresso Citiz. This handsome machine, sporting a vintage 40s-50s era look, easily produces stellar espresso with the touch of a button. The simplicity of the Citiz is matched with a 19 bar pressure system and can produce a hot cup of Java in less than 30 seconds. The only drawback is being limited to the Nespresso collection, as it uses proprietary capsules to brew the coffee. I wouldn’t say that this is for espresso purists, but for someone who enjoys them without the need of overcomplicating things the Citiz makes life abit simpler. Plus, George Clooney sponsors the company. That has to mean something, right? $280 at Williams Sonoma.

Pick: Slim-Fit Chinos

Jeans pretty much work out in almost any situation, however having an alternative pair of pants that can be as easily worn is useful as well. With that in mind, try snagging some solid chinos. Many designers have taken cue to progressive fashion these days and are producing some solid slim-cut khakis that are perfect in dressing up or down for any season. Read on for some favorite picks I’ve found as of late.

Third & The Seventh

Give Hollywood this guy’s number, please. Alex Roman’s film entitled ‘The Third & The Seventh’ combines beautiful architectural imagery with a subtle cinematic score. Maybe more impressive is that this whole film was completely done in CGI, showcasing an almost studio-like work of art. In other words, color me impressed. Full video after the jump.

Foregoing Vitamins?

My pal in dental school recently said that supplemental multivitamins were mostly useless from his studies, and that school of thought has steadily gained traction in the media as of late. Slate has published a pretty insightful article on the debate, including some revered study publications concluding the multivitamins ineffectiveness:

Half of all American adults take some sort of nutritional supplement. But research on a wide variety of patient populations and medical conditions has failed to find much evidence that multivitamins, the most commonly used of the lot, prevent major chronic diseases in healthy people. The most recent knock came this spring, when a study of more than 160,000 post-menopausal women, published in the Archives of Internal Medicine, found that the all-in-one pills did not prevent cancer, heart attacks, or strokes and did not reduce overall mortality.

Of course there’s two sides to every debate, but it would be a sad story to deprive future generations of those morning Flintstones vitamins.
