Somehow someone turned that old Epson printer sitting in your closet into the next Death Star. Intellectual Ventures Labs, founded by former Microsoft chief technology officer Nathan Myhrold, have created a machine that is determined to help reduce the spread of malaria in high mosquito populations. Using a myriad of commonly available parts (from printers, cd players, projectors), this innovative company has created a relatively inexpensive machine that is able to fire a laser strong enough to locate and target mosquitoes in mid-flight. So effective is this gadget that Intellectual Ventures claims that it can kill approximately 50-100 mosquitoes per second. With Bill Gates actively on board for support, this thing could take off real fast. In order words, highly impressive. Full video demonstration in HD after the break.
