Steam-Powered Mac

If you’re on a Mac and crave abit more hardcore gaming than ‘Words with Friends’ on your iPhone, now you’re in luck. Valve, one of the most successful developers for PC gaming, has decided to port their widely popular digital distribution platform ‘Steam’ to the Mac:

“Valve has announced Mac support for its Steam digital distribution platform and Source — the engine that powers Half-Life 2, amongst others. Steamworks for the Mac supports all of the Steamworks APIs, and we have added a new feature, called Steam Play, which allows customers who purchase the product for the Mac or Windows to play on the other platform free of charge,” said Valve’s Jason Holtman. “For example, Steam Play, in combination with the Steam Cloud, allows a gamer playing on their work PC to go home and pick up playing the same game at the same point on their home Mac.

The first title that would support this feature will be the puzzle shooter ‘Portal 2′ in April. To get a taste of what ‘Portal’ is all about, try the fan-created ‘Portal: Flash‘, a simple web-based game that gets the feel for the game in a 2D setting. Now if I could simply find a job that lets me play computer games at work I’d be completely set.
