Ring Glasses

My cupboard needed an upgrade as of late and I decided on picking up some of these neat glasses while at Crate & Barrel the other day. The Ring Glasses are dishwasher safe, quite durable and can be had at an extremely attractive price. $0.95 – $1.50 at Crate & Barrel.

Life

The latest from the BBC Natural History Unit (behind the remarkably successful ‘Earth’), entitled ‘Life’, comes to Blu-Ray on 4 discs with over 550 minutes of amazing wildlife footage in glorious HD. Before you buy, make sure you’re snagging the superior David Attenborough rendition (AKA the British version). Oprah narrating this series is about as fitting as having Dennis Miller on MNF. $50.99 at Amazon.

Time Travel Possible?

Ever since Einstein declared that time traveling could be possible, the theory has spawned countless debates on whether it can actually be done. Two prominent physicists, Michio Kaku and Stephen Hawking, however agree that the theory is sound and can be quite possible. Just don’t hold your breath thinking that the next time traveler would be an Emmett Brown:

Red Dead

If you like to relax from the summer heat with video games, then you should definitely look into this. Rockstar’s ‘Red Dead Redemption’ hits stores today and given the reviews from Game Rankings, it looks to be a fantastic wild west opus. Basically it’s Grand Theft Auto with more six shooters and Ennio Morricone thrown to the mix. So if you ever wanted to live out your spaghetti western double-life, this could be the answer. For more, including a written and video review, head over to IGN.

Topman Shorts

The mercury has been really rising in Austin as this past week boasted clear skies with over 90° temperatures for the first time this year. With summer right along for everyone and the weather complimenting the incoming season, its time to show a little extra skin. If finding shorts is still a dilemma, check out Topman’s new collection of summerwear. I’m really digging the Kasper Harup-Hansen Pinstripe Short featured above, but they also have a nice array of clean tailored shorts available in multiple colors. For more, head over here.

Afghanistan via Apple

Associated Press photographer David Guttenfelder decided to document the war in Afghanistan with a slightly unique approach. Using the ShakeItPhoto app, Guttenfelder captured images of American and Afghan forces using his iPhone. The photos, with the filter, look really great and showcase everyday life for the men partaking in the assault of the Marjah province. For more on the pictures, click here.

Pick: BDG V-Neck

Despite how easy it may seem, it’s actually kinda hard finding a solid v-neck shirt for myself these days. Especially when you’re looking for something basic that’s better than Hanes but cheaper than a Marc Jacobs collection piece. So far I’ve tried American Apparel, Gap, Banana Republic, Armani Exchange, and even J.Crew yet nothing works out. Either the fit is wrong, the ‘v’ is too low or high, or its simply made too cheap to justify its price. Surprisingly, I’ve finally found success with BDG’s line on v-neck shirts. They’re stretchy, comfortable and the fit is perfect. Plus, Urban Outfitters is having them on sale right now for 2 for $24.

Phoenix ‘Live In Sydney’

If you’re still bummed on not catching Phoenix when they visited in Austin a few weeks ago, don’t fret. Earlier in March, the French band announced a free live album available for download online titled ‘Live in Sydney’. For more, head over to the official website here for the download link. You can also thank me later. Update: the main download links are down so try this mirror instead here.

Chicken Marsala

A beloved recipe in many family cookbooks, the chicken marsala is a dish that incorporates rich italian flavors in a very simplistic manner. Here’s my rendition of the recipe with a simple risotto and sautéed spinach side that worked out for me even on a busy weeknight.

Biodegradable Pens

These aren’t your normal pens. Made from an eco-friendly potato starch bio-plastic, the DBA 98 pen is surprisingly 98% biodegradable. How so? Other than the ballpoint and nib, everything else (including cap, reservoir, ink) is both non-toxic and biodegradable. The environmental aspect goes even further from there: the packaging is made from 100% recycled paper and printed with vegetable ink; wind energy is used during the manufacturing process; and they are made in the USA.  To top it all off, these pens simply look cool with the minimalistic overtones used in its simple yet effective design. $8 (3 pack) – DBA Pens.

Sub-$1000 Suits

The New York Times has a pretty good piece on the top summer suits that can be had for less than $1000. I’m really digging the Shipley & Halmos grey suit on the second slide, as I’m still in need of a solid grey two-piece. Access to the slideshow and more can be found via link below.
